Of grid does not mean without electricity. It's almost as if EA is trying to give off grid living a bad name.

Sims Castaway did off the grid better. I don't understand why they can't go back to previous games and see what it worked there and implement it in newer games. And eventually you can buy water and electricity generators (water tower and wind powered generator) to make water and electrict objects work .

ETA: Heck, technically The Sims Medieval also did off the grid gameplay and it worked great.

The Off The Grid problem is a real headache even for modders.
Indeed Maxis created new tuning interaction especially for the elements already present in game and already Off The Grid.
So we can only change the element already in play because it would be necessary to completely create a new Tuning to make a interaction to take a bath Off The Grid for exemple.
I have already hijacked a wooden tub to fill with water seal to take a bath. But impossible Offthegrid with any tuning.

TRUE!!!!! I loved medieval when I eventually tried it. They should totally sort this out. I think this is what simmers were looking for when the laundry pack was chosen...

You know, they could have done this right with generators, batteries, solar panels, windmills, LED lights and so on. I don't think they know the first thing about being off grid.
All you need to do, I hook up your Mr. Fusion to the house electrical input, and you have up to 1.21 gigawatts of electrical power right there.

Somebody is sleeping at the job. Maybe a coffee will do. If its Grant behind the unfinished lot trait or/and search engine keywords' results, I'll ask collegescolleagues to not anger him into spilling his coffee. Things need to be done, so chop chop!

So I know EA went in and "fixed" some stuff to work off-grid. Mostly candles I think. Limited use on the slab pc, stuff like that. This new Machismo thing will probably break a lot of these, who knows, but I thought it wouls be helpful to have custom off-grid items listed in one place. So, here's what I've found so far.

https://nieswillsneeze.tumblr.com/p...f-grid-mod-nies
The two listed by jje1000 http://www.modthesims.info/d/629073...e-off-grid.html & https://modthesims.info/d/629083/ru...e-off-grid.html

But here's some mods to make it "look" like you are off grid, but without choosing that lot feature.

I have downloaded these mods but have not tested them all in-game yet.

I realize there are a few stoves, refrigerators, toilets that EA gave us for off grid. And if I was playing an apocalypse scenario, they would do. By they just don't fit the "survival" or distant island stories I wanted. So, 2nd best thing is to turn off the off-grid feature and just pretend I'm off grid with stuff the fits nicely into the story.

I'm still looking, but if anyone else has found some off-grid stuff, please share what you've found.
Would love to find an off-grid computer. something the Professor, on Guilligan's Island, might have come up with!

I live off-grid. I am sat here off-grid, watching youtube and playing sims on my laptop. I don't know why people think we live like we are in the 1800s. I have running water from a tank, hot water from a boiler, electricity from solar and on darker days we use a generator to top it up. I cook on a normal gas oven and also have a refrigerator. Off-grid simply means that you don't get your power from the mains electricity grid. It doesn't mean we live like cavemen.

Maxis should have included solar panels or wind turbines to provide energy for off-grid living, and have low energy appliances and maybe limit the amount of electricity you can use in one day, which would require you to save power by turning things off or using a generator to top up the electricity which costs money. They could really elaborate on the off-grid living if they could be bothered to put in the time. What they have done is unrealistic, badly researched and crappy.

I was going to bring up both of these. I've looked at off-grid and other alternative living and the vast majority are not at all like what they've done with Sims 4. I don't live off-grid like you do, but it wouldn't take a long research to know these things. It's amazingly embarrassing that they've released it as it is, since it's quite insulting and doesn't work well. In my opinion, it would have been something much better to spend time on than talking toilets and other nonsense. Much more realistic.

Plus it could have been an opportunity to put solar panels and such for on-grid houses too, to save on the bills and tie in the traits, but nope.

Totally agree with you. I was so disappointed when I realized that there's actually two or three wells in the game, none of them are functional to get water from them. As we have seasons and lots of rain, they could have also added a water collection tank. Gas oven with a gas canister, which could malfunction or explode. An underground cellar to store food. Solar panels, batteries, even one of those electricity generating bikes would have been nice to have. Satellite internet and TV, maybe a radio station for communication and a mechanical typewriter to write novels on.

Totally agreed! I don't live off grid, but my family has acreage and I've done a lot of research on the possibilities. We live in the country and, like many people out here, have always gotten our water from a well. Many people I know have generators. I have the knowledge to forage for wild food in real life just like my Sims can, but tbh that's pretty rare, and lots of people out here fish (and even hunt, and are farmers or ranchers.) Most people, though, even if they are off grid or are prepared to go off the grid, have the same sorts of jobs as everyone else does.

I wonder if the Tiny Living stuff pack will include things that will make the off the grid stuff more playable?
