Been looking for definitive answers to this:

What causes Still Lifes and Portraits to come out so frickin' dark? At first I thought it was the Somber filter, but it seems weird that literally every Sim I've played who paints automatically has their paintings Somber-fied.

I've tried filling an entire room with floor lamps to do my Legacy portraits and they still come out so dark as to be useless. Why is it like this, and is there a cure short of writing a mod to fix it?
