Default Is it possible to use DOF in sims 2?
Hi everyone!
I have been testing and playing with reshade lately and just wanted to make sure if someone knows better that is there depth maps in the game? Because it seems like the dof doesn't register foreground or background at all? Has anyone been able to use dof in the game?

@alector

I'm not aware of depth map, but pixelhate did some research using bump maps and normal maps to add depth to textures a while back:

http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=318639
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=316260 (this is his must-have guide for all things texture-related in Sims 2, which also includes all his findings on bump mapping)

Hopefully, some of this can help you get the results you want.

Thank you! I'm not talking about normals or bumps unfortunately. Depth map looks like this
But I'm just trying to figure out is it possible to use Dof in sims 2 or not. My title was a bit misleading!

(Because not everyone may know what dof means, it is short for 'Depth of field', the camera effect that gives a blurry background or foreground depending on where the camera is focusing)

I think a version of DoF was included in the postprocessing mod by pineapple5050 (pinetumblr) on Tumblr, but I don't know how they did it. The mod was based on shaders and functions normally turned off ingame, if I am not completely mistaken.

Yeah like what simmer22 said, there is a post-processing mod which pineapple5050 made.
Note that the mod required quiet a powerful computer as it can be bit laggy. Here the similar mod.

Both mod has Ambient Occlusion and that mod just fix snow shader so it isn't blue.

Thank you very much! I have now tested the postprocessing mod and it indeed has some kind of DOF though I haven't been able to make it static for the game play but I guess it has lots of uses when taking pictures. If anyone knows how to make it static I would appreciate the knowledge!
