Default Suitable laptops? sis mirage 3+?
Sorry to post here, I'm not sure where else too.

However, I am after a new laptop and naturally, as a sims fan, if it is possible I wouldn't mind having the Sims 3 I was just wondering if anybody had either of these and could tell me how the sims 3 runs on them (I will be buying additional RAM for whichever I buy) and also I was wondering it the sis mirage 3+ graphics card was good enough?

For the record, I'm on a frumpy pink sony vaio that only cost me $800 and it's worked just fine. Not sure what my specs are. The reason why I named the color is because it's known now that those who purchased the colorful ones were buying that more than anything.

Both of these I would not buy to run The Sims 3. They only have 1GB of ram and the video just stinks on both of them. You would be better off finding something else with at least 256 MB of Ram dedicated on your video and 2 to 3GB of ram. Dual core as well.

My mother just bought a system for 400 from office max that play the sims on medium just fine.

something like this as far as ram and video. you really need a dual core.

Thanks for the responses I should've mentioned: I'm in the UK, no US websites for me I was planning on getting more RAM either way, probs get 3 or 4 GB of RAM.

Do those two lappies play the sims well? As I've been dismissing anything with a processor speed less than 2GHz as the game specs say 2.4 for vista min?

No US websites as they generally don't ship or charge extortionate rates for shipping that is. Though cheaper shipping I'm all for

I have a 2ghz dual core laptop that I use for the sims when I'm not at my desktop. It's kinda tough to find laptops with decent video cards for a reasonable price. I've had good luck with Asus laptops (not the eee series, I have an n80v). I purchased mine off of newegg but that's U.S. only I beleive. So I have no idea where you would find decent prices on one though a google search did turn up this site http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/categories.php?cat=5 .

Most important thing in your search will have to be a dedicated video card in the laptop. Any intel video chipsets will NOT work with this game, at least not in a half way decent matter.

I like the look of the Asus ones, but they also have this Mirage video card thing (well, the ones I can afford have) and they don't say how fast the processor is :/

I run an HP dv6700 Entertainment edition.
It has 2 gig ram
This is what I have http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/e...54-3632100.html
Runs the sims 3 decently. Kinda laggy at times.
I would suggect having at least 4 gigs for the game to run really well. Cause 2 gig is just lacking for me </3

I had to buy a new laptop early this year b/c my SiS graphics card wouldn't run TS2 So i would doubt very much it can handle ts3

Check out cash convertors, me and the boy both got oor lappys out of there for less than 250 each n they both run ts3, in fairness the graphics are turned right down, but they had much better ones that were a bit more expensive.

Have a look at Dell Studio 15 and Dell Studio 17, you can configure and customise them online on the Dell website so you get all the specs that you want....They come with an ATI 4570 Radeon graphics card which I've been told isn't that great, but still capable of running The Sims 3 I believe.
After configuration, they usually come in under £600 which isn't too bad.

Acer laptops are suppossed to be quite good for gaming also. The Acer Aspire 6930g is often described as "gaming" and "multimedia" and again, some models are under £600, with pretty high specs, so they seem good value for money.

Maybe trying looking at refurbished laptops or laptop outlets for cheaper prices.

Well I doubt that site I posted has the best prices. For sure that site doesn't have the details nor the customability you can find at other sites. But again being from the states and doing pretty much all my tech shopping with newegg I can't be too much help there. I know some tech centric guys in the uk give me a bit and I'll see what they recommend.

Recommend sticking to the guide that HP said and ignoring previous attempts at help. Unfortunately the people who tried to help seem to not be very well informed and have given you some less than ideal to downright poor recommendations.

Thanks for all the advice and for moving it, I'm lame with this forum, I don't frequent it enough :D

I'm looking at refurbed and second hand ones at the moment as I cannot afford anything more than £400, and that's pushing it (I only earn £100 a week so it'll be all my 'pocket money' next week! Am live-in mother's help lol).

I'll look into the links tomorrow, when the sun is up again

Thanks again!
