Maybe catch butterflies or fireflies has a percentage chance of getting a bug for the bug collection.

Or maybe iforgot has a mod? I seem to remember they are maybe playing Chris Hatch's EP.

I doubt hatch would have altered that. In any case, we'll have it your ways.

It didn't happen, I'm imagining things, going crazy, or whatever.

I can't be bothered to argue about such a stupid thing.

Oh, I wasn't arguing, apologies if it came across as that! It's just that this is definitely something that happens with bug hunting, and you did mention you have a lot of mods and an unofficial EP. But maybe it's as Charity says and it's a rare thing with butterfly collecting.

Well, I did some digging to clear my name.

To make it fair, I did this with a completely clean objects package - the one from the ultimate collection (The real one, not the fake Mr DJ one) and no third party mods at all.

So! Turns out we're both right.. sort of!

Firstly, let's look into the interaction "catch butterfly":

We can see here, this leads us to run the catch interaction on an object with GUID 0x7216D4E0. Let's look for it!

...

Now, we can see below it has an interaction "Interaction - Catch". What does this function do I wonder? Well, it leads us to run a tree called "CT - Hunt Butterfly":

Aha! And now, we can see here:

That this particular function is directly linked to the bug hunting interactions, and will trigger the bug collection actions. Therefore, we can see that this function can and will trigger the notification I had previously shown.

I rest my case.

You could have used a lot less effort if you just checked the wiki lol. https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Bug_collecting

With FreeTime, trying to catch butterflies or fireflies will build nature enthusiasm, as will viewing captured ones. Also, Sims who catch butterflies might occasionally put them in their bug collection.

Very cool, great detective work! I'll make sure to catch more butterflies and fireflies, I've never yet seen this happen (although I have seen the bugs 'escape' from the box).

Good thinking, but my engineering brain trusts the code much more that something someone wrote on a public wiki. Nice to see it's correct though, I'm always happy to be proved wrong, especially when I learn something new about the game!

Same!

It could be argued (without evidence) that the wiki information is inaccurate, or holding misinformation due to wording, interpretation etc. Thus cannot truly resolve the dispute. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they do their very best to be accurate, but the games object file and information given can be verified by anyone easily.

I just learned something pretty exciting.

I was working in my Magic Town spiritual successor subhood, Conjurer's Lake in the spooky medival district, and I realized I had a 10x30 spot for a lot, so I decided to make a small mixed zone row building with shops on the bottom and apartments on top (thanks to the mod from Mog) and to optimize the small space by having the jettying over the sidewalk... And it worked... Everything worked... Except the roof tool which gives an out of bounds error... But I found a way around it.

Today I learned that the autoroof tool will add rooves on top of any room whether it meets the requirements for the roof tool or not.

I don't understand what I'm looking at with the roof tool?

I opened the Object Workshop to find and open said object, so I could see its BHAV's, which in turn showed how it triggers the bug hunting related notification from the catch butterflies interaction.

(I'm still new to SimPE, so I might have gone the long way. )

The first picture shows how close to the sidewalk the roof tool normally allows you to build. The latter two just demonstrate how autoroof will place one anyways.

Oh, you can just search for the GUID in the SimAntics resource finder, get the group from there, and then just open the group. You should also do the same with the RTBN, since RTBN is usually used to call functions where there are many different ones with the same name in different groups.

I don't have that tool, and no idea if it would work on Linux under wine. In any case, I was able to find and show what I was looking for.

It's part of SimPE. It's under Tools -> PJSE -> SimAntics Resource Finder. It also has a dropdown to filter by group number which contains all of the semiglobal groups - I don't find it useful for filtering results, but mainly useful for populating the semiglobal group number in the box when you select it, so that you can go to that group in the main UI if you're looking for something in there.

Photobooth pix cost $10. I can't track numbers so I knew they cost something, but I never knew how much. Till I took a couple that was down to its last simoleon on a date, and one of them wanted to take a picture together, but the only option they got was woohoo. So I took them to a place where they could play music for tips, got them up to $32, tried again, got the option, took the picture, and then they were down to $22.

That seems like a lot for photobooth pics. The last time I took one in a real booth it was maybe $0.75 for a strip of four?

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

Oh, that yeah. See the first screenshot, it's at the side, where I had already done a search to find the butterfly stuff.
