Empire Challenge
BACKGROUND

Sims who move to Sunkist Cove are looking for their chance to make it big. Just about everyone is a hustler trying to claw their way to the top but only the rare few succeed. It's a cat and mouse game where innocent star eyed sims get eaten alive.

Those who find their way to level 10, have all the power in their chosen "Empire" and they are considered ruler of their industry. It's all about who you know and what you are willing to give to get a piece of the pie.

It’s going to take grit, manipulation, klout and network savvy to win at this game.

SETUP

Start with 6 Create a Sims. I use random.org to roll a die to see what aspiration they will have. It’s up to you what you want to pick for each. Create a very basic small apartment building. (Hey, they are poor and just starting out in the city of gold!) Remember to write down the cost of the building before changing lot since the real estate tycoon will have to pay for the lot later on. Do that by saving and clicking on the building in neighborhood mode for the price.

Once you move all the sims into their own apartment, look at their lifetime wants and interests to see which Empire best fits them. Then have them get the job that is in their empire of choice and start working up the levels. Set a rotation. The easiest I find is by season. If a rotation stifles your creativity, then do it however you like.

This challenge best suits story telling type play where you create a plot and build on it depending on how sims interact with each other. Drama, drama, drama is at the core of this challenge.

CAREER LEVELS

To make it higher than level 3 in any chosen empire career, you need the right people to believe in you and want to help you succeed.

Friend = sim on any empire career ladder.
Network = acquaintances with 20 relationship points.
Mentor = sim higher up on the same career track who will take your sim under their wings and show them the ropes or a tycoon who sees potential and wants to invest in the sim, in hopes to see dividends later on.

(Watch for cues when sims first meet. Use chat. Do they tend to agree with each other? Take notes. If they disagree, then it is not a match for mentorship.)

(The first sim to climb the career ladder will not need a mentor if no one is available)

Lvl 1-3 Base Game requirements
Lvl 4-5 3 friends / 10 network
Lvl 6-7 5 friends / 20 network / Mentor
Lvl 8-9 7 friends / 30 Network / Mentor
Lvl 10 10 friends / 50 Network / Plot (a scheme to knock down the top sim) / Roll (6 wins)

Only one sim can be at level 10 per Empire / Type. If you want a sim to knock the ruler off their empire throne, you are going to have to come up with some sort of plot on how to do that. This is part of the story line aspect of this challenge, so if you aren’t the storyteller type you can skip the plot and just roll. You can only roll if you meet the requirements above. If you win, by rolling a six, you can take the top spot and advance your sim to level 10. The sim who was knocked off loses their job (have them quit) and if a business tycoon they will have to sell their businesses to the winning sim. Then the losing sim can retire or they can start over in the same empire or another one. (yes, I know that requires quite a lot of financing so if you aren't up for that then assume the sim at the top became bankrupt due to the scheme and left in disgrace)

How many times can you roll? Every time you receive a chance card, it gives you another opportunity to roll. (Ignore chance cards though, I would suggest, but if you like to gamble, go ahead!)

RULES
  • Business Empires are passed down to the next of kin. If a sim dies at a level lower than ten, offspring only receives family funds and furniture. (All property is rented)
  • Townies are citizens of Sunkist Cove. They are the normal folks living everyday lives. They are the fans, audience, customers… etc. the population.
  • No 20k handouts. Money given at the start is considered a loan to be paid back by cheats or chequebook.
  • No cheats that would help with gaining skills, advancing careers, etc.
  • All real estate is rented. No one other then the real estate tycoon owns land. (This means before you make the building an apartment, go to neighborhood to find out how much it costs then use cheat to change lot. The real estate tycoon will have to pay the building cost and will receive the rent)
[list]Once a sim is at the top level of their chosen Empire, they can start making money by doing jobs labelled under "Benefits" or "Types" for business. For example, with business, once at level 10, the real estate type can loan money to buy up the current apartments and commercial property in game and start to expand. They then begin to receive the rent of these properties. This will require some note keeping. Sims in apartments continue to pay the box. Those who purchase commercial property will be reimbursed and instead they will send the rent money (tallied up from when they started renting) to the real estate tycoon. If this is too complicated, I suggest that you remove the Real Estate Tycoon from your game play.

Looks like an interesting way to play. May use this as inspiration once my Medieval City Challenge is done. Looks great for adding drama and structure to a newly formed city.
